What your Donations Do

We, the Cochrane Ecological Institute, always need your help
·  to do what we do for the conservation of wilderness and wildlife,
·  to help the wild animals we help,
·  and to teach urban children about the wild world outside THE cities and suburbs.

Without your help we could not continue to do our work, and we all THANK YOU very much for supporting the CEI.

We are slightly enlarging our focus in 2008-2009 to focus on Environmental Education and on reasons why habitat protection is vitally important to wildlife.

We will be doing our usual programmes as well

We REALLY NEED YOUR HELP. If you can donate to our work, your money can be earmarked for specific programs, and your money will only be spent as you have decided.

*For people living in Alberta there is an added benefit to donating to the CEI

The Government of Alberta has a new programme, launched on April 30^th 2008, for Charities called the Community Spirit Donation Grant Program and Enhanced Charitable Tax Credit:

The Community Spirit Program was created to help increase charitable donations by individual Albertans to Alberta’s non-profit and charitable organizations. The Community Spirit program is made up of two components: the enhanced charitable tax credit and the new Donation Grant Program.

Within the next couple of days the Government of Alberta will have a "tool kit" for charities on their website (http://culture.alberta.ca/community spirit/faqs.aspx)...but what the program basically is, is this:

If just a person, an individual, donates to an eligible charity (which the CEI is) then at the end of the year we tot up all the individuals who donated to us, write to the govt. and they will give us a percentage of the total of our donations received...they didn't know what % because they haven't worked that out yet because the programme is so new...so it could be from 10% to 50%...but any % is better than none, which is what it it at the moment
If an individual donates more than $200 bucks to the CEI, or gives a total of more than $200 to a group of Charities, then combined with the Federal Tax Credit the individual donating the money will receive a 50% tax rebate on every dollar donated.
None of this applies if we obtain Grant funds from Foundations, the Key is donations from individual Albertans!
